Mining:
Iron, Precious Metal, Stone, Wood
The region of ancient Rome was rich in many resources. Iron was mined for weapons for the army and equipment for their great engineering projects. Stone was used for roads and bridges throughout what would become the Roman Empire. Gold and silver were minted into coins used in trade. The trees of the rich forests were used in home-making, tools for agriculture.

Rome is located in a region rich in volcanic activity. As these volcanos sent ash, lava and gases from deep under the earth's crust into the air, they eventually settled back onto the land, making it very fertile. This led to a strong agricultural economy and a well-fed population in Rome.
